Mason PearsonWithout a doubt, the best hairbrush for me is the Mason Pearson Boar Bristle and Nylon brush, in “Popular” or “Junior” size.

In 1885, a Yorkshireman named Mason Pearson invented an automatic brush-boring machine to speed up the process of brush making, for which he won a Silver Medal at the International Inventions Exhibition in London. In the same year he invented the "pneumatic" rubber-cushion hairbrush, for which much of the work was (and still is) done by hand.

The combination of boar bristles and nylon tufts makes it glide through your hair, simultaneously removing tangles and smoothing your hair to a glossy softness. And it does it gently – I have a very sensitive scalp and the smallest hair pull hurts me. This is the only brush that I trust to do a wonderful job and not make me yelp.

The quality is suburb and with proper care the brush will last for many years. Now for a confession: I have been, shall we say, slipshod in the care of my Mason Pearson brush, yet it has served me well for seventeen years and counting. I find that people tend to spurge on special occasion items that they may use once or twice a year – fancy china, cocktail rings, or evening gowns. Why not splurge for something you will use several times a day that will give you years of quality service?
